"hajaraau
chann tara aakash maa yeha,
ek tara bani udauna khojdaichu ma pani,
chan sathma mera naaula asha umanga haru,
aafnai ek astitva banaunu cha malai pani……"
True, the horizon of the Nepali musical sky holds many vibrant shining
stars; those stars who have succeeded to overpower myriad other
stars with their mesmerizing music and voice. The voyage of creating
and furnishing beautiful and long lasting songs never ends and nor
ends the challenge where one has to prove that he has something
different to offer!!!!!!!
Sanoop Poudel, an aspiring singer has marked his presence in the
Nepali music world with his debut solo album "Voice".
In the present situation when singing, more than an exploration
of art, has become a medium of gaining popularity and short- term
fame, this singer has something different on his mantel. A classical
student of music maestro Prabhu Raj Dhakal and a student of ethnomusicology
in KU, he has set an example to umpteen singers who firmly believe
that formal training are not essential. His songs vary from traditional
jazz blended with symphonic music to new classical ballad and light
rock to modern music. Here, we present to you a candid talk with
the singer.
What
has "Voice", your debut venture got to offer?
"Voice" is a collection of soft, melodious and sentimental
songs. The songs are the interpretations of my heart. I have expressed
my feelings through the charismatic medium of music. The album has
pop songs, rock songs and modern songs also. I have tried to experiment
with different kind of music and create fusions of the western and
eastern type. I strongly believe that the songs of the album will
touch the hearts of the listeners.
What does music mean to you?
Music is an art, an experiment
of various sounds. Everyone knows how to produce a sound but a music
person brings the best out of a sound which soothes the nerves of
any person.
Let us move back to your bygone days. How did music entice you?
I don't visibly remember but
music has always ruled me. I loved listening to music and my family
environment also supported me. It was only later that I started
singing and playing musical instruments. The inherent quality of
music within me slowly refined and matured with time. In those days,
I was more into classical music. Then, I also became a member of
the band Aswamedha and released an album.
Please continue…
I always wanted to do a solo
album. But how? I didn't know. So, my first step was formal music
training. The training period enhanced my confidence and capabilities
towards music. Then, I started working with "Voice."
How
is your album different than the albums of other singers?
Every singer has their own
distinctive style of singing and so do I. But, in my opinion, the
way I have explored different category of music makes my album different
than others.
Every song of "Voice"
revolves around love. Any personal reasons? How romantic are you?
Umm, I don’t know. Maybe I
am. However, the prior reason behind it is that the masses enjoy
love songs.
What can we expect from you
in the future?
Better songs and better music.
Any last words?
Encourage Nepali artists
and keep listening to Nepali music.
YES,
all you people (especially Nepalese) out there; keep listening to
Nepali music because our songs are no less than others in various
aspects like creativity and melodies. New emerging talents like
Sanoop Poudel request only one thing from us; our love, appreciations
and encouragements. So, each of us play an important role in taking
Nepali music to greater heights……and all we need to do is just listen
to their songs and give them a position in our hearts.
So, what about listening
to "VOICE"? I am listening to it. Well, believe me, the
songs are beautiful…You don't believe me? Then, go listen to "VOICE"
and I bet you will agree to me.
