If
you're asked about your present favorite singer, then we know what
your answer would be! Mingma Sherpa, isn’t it? His song "Cham
Cham…" has not only been able to remain on charts for
weeks, Mingma has also succeeded to capture the hearts of many Nepali
music lovers. Inspired by modern songs, this versatile singer takes
no chance to learn the market demand and fuse his songs with pop,
classical, western and other different forms of music. Mingma Sherpa
shares his thoughts about music and his recent album "Feel"
with Cybersansar.
Here
are some excerpts of the interview.
1.
How would you like to define your album ‘Feel’?
It is a pop album with a classical touch.
2. Describe ‘Feel’ in your own words.
‘Feel’ is a collection of versatile songs
with a mixture of selo-pop fusion and sentimental- melodious fusion
with modern and western touch.
3.
What kind of responses have you been receiving?
People say that the collections of songs are versatile
and my vocal performance is also comparatively better than the first
album.
4. Have you taken any vocal classes before entering
the music industy?
Yes, I have taken vocal classes for three years.
5.What do you think is important for an album to
be commercially successful?
Firstly, you should have qualitative voice and songs
in your pocket. A good media exposure is always important for an
artist and it also depends upon the country's situation, audiences'
attentions and piracy free environment.
6. Could you tell us something about your musical
background.
I was brought up in a musical environment. My brothers
and sisters are avid music lovers. I used to sing during various
occasions with my friends. When I entered into the industry, I thought
I would sing modern songs but I was touched by the trendy musical
environment. "Timro maya" from my first album is the result
of that. It has a bit of hip-hop influence but the song solely is
a modern song.
7. How would you define the present musical scenario
of Nepal?
Nepali musical environment is good and creative but
I think it has started losing the typical Nepali touch. Western
music has influenced us a lot and as a result, it has degraded the
Nepali flavor.
8.You've also tried experimenting with western music
in your albums. Please explain.
Though
I have tried with the western music, my songs have the Nepali touch.
I think we should be inspired by them but should retain the authentic
charm of the Nepali music.
9. What inspires you to explore your
creative?
Sentimental songs give me lots of inspirations for
my music.
10. At last, any messages?
Give priority to Nepali music. Love Nepali music
and Nepali artists.
